FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kansas City, M.O. – March 21, 2013: Anyone who knows a youth and wants to show their appreciation is encouraged to participate in Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® (AIKD)—a day designated to honor our nation’s youth. Adults and teens are asked to write letters of encouragement and inspiration. It is a simple, meaningful way to let youth know how much they are appreciated. Lives have been changed by this simple act of love and kindness.

“We know about Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Women’s History Month. We celebrate adults on special days, but why not youth?” said Cathy Tisdale, CEO Camp Fire. “We ask every adult to join us. Take five minutes and write a child, tell them they matter, that they always will. If a youth hears it enough and believes it, he or she will be more prepared to face the complicated issues confronting them every day.”

Camp Fire believes in guiding youth to develop abilities today—not tomorrow, not ten years from now. Because of this, they developed AIKD. This day of celebration has been in effect on the third Thursday of March since 1997 and has helped countless youth find their spark and feel appreciated and know that they are important.

“I have received a letter every year since I can remember.” said Lauren Lampe, Camp Fire National Youth Advisory Cabinet Chair. “Now that I am in college, I have the opportunity to help youth feel the same way I did when I got a letter—incredible. It’s such a simple gesture but it means so much.”

Anyone can participate—parents, siblings, grandparents, teachers, coaches, executives, etc… The goal is for every kid in America to get to receive a letter. Just imagine the impact of encouraging letters in lunch boxes, hidden in pockets, left on pillows, and tucked into backpacks! You do not have to belong to Camp Fire to participate.

Camp Fire believes in the dignity and worth of every individual—every youth deserves to know that they are incredible. Helping a young person become who they want to be takes time and encouragement. It takes paying attention to what sparks a passion. With your help, we can help youth discover the exceptional people they are. Celebrate youth on March 21st by participating in Absolutely Incredible Kid Day®
