Fourth Overall Selection, Seth Jones, among those who used the cognitive training tool, originally developed from technology used to train air force pilots, to hone hockey sense

PRESS RELEASE (July 1, 2013) – Thirteen players selected in the 2013 NHL Draft, including the fourth overall pick, Seth Jones, used The Hockey IntelliGym as part of their training regimen.

The product, which uses technology originally designed to train Israeli and American fighter pilots, helps hockey players improve the cognitive functions that make up hockey sense. It has also been shown to reduce on ice injuries by heightening spatial awareness.

The list of NHL draftees who have trained on The Hockey IntelliGym includes:

Seth Jones (Nashville) – Round 1

Michael McCarron (Montreal) – Round 1

JT Compher (Buffalo) – Round 2

Steven Santini (New Jersey) – Round 2

John Hayden (Chicago) –  Round 3

Keaton Thompson (Anaheim) – Round 3

Hudson Fasching (Los Angeles) – Round 4

Tyler Motte (Chicago) – Round 4

Will Butcher (Colorado) – Round 5

Connor Clifton (Phoenix) – Round 5

Gage Ausmus (San Jose) – Round 5

Sean Malone (Buffalo) – Round 6

Anthony Louis (Chicago) – Round 6

“Congratulations to this year’s NHL draftees. We’re proud of the fact that they trained with the IntelliGym to hone the mental side of their games. The good news is, any player over the age of 10 can benefit from cognitive training. It makes for safer and better play,” said Danny Dankner, CEO of the Hockey IntelliGym

The IntelliGym software can be installed on any PC or Mac. It employs a video-game-like interface to hone decision making under pressure, anticipation of plays, and spatial awareness. It customizes training based on a player’s size, position, dominant hand and past performance. Single player, family or team licenses are available.

USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program has been using The Hockey IntelliGym since 2009, during which time the U.S. has captured four straight IIHF U18 Men’s World Championship gold medals, and has earned three medals in four years at the IIHF World Junior Championships, marking the first time in the nation’s history it has accomplished such a feat. Thirteen players on America’s Gold Medal winning squad at this year’s World Juniors were IntelliGym graduates, including Jones.

Thousands of individuals and teams have already adopted the Hockey IntelliGym, among them: the Niagara Ice Dogs (OHL), the Concordia Stingers (CIS), and the Notre Dame Hounds.
