Swimsuit Season Inspires Dogs to Hit the Treadmill at Pooch Hotel’s Summer Get Fit Camp

in Press Releases

PRESS RELEASE (June 2013) San Diego, CA- As swimsuit season approaches, fitness routines are being taken up a notch and dogs are getting in on the action too with Pooch Hotel’s Summer Get Fit Camp. It may seem a bit outlandish, however, there truly is a need, as humans aren’t the only ones to fall victim to “The Obesity Crisis in America” – over 50 percent of dogs are overweight and one-fifth are obese. Being healthy also means having a sound body AND mind. Pooch Hotel’s Get Fit Camp is great for pets of all fitness levels because it incorporates elements like pool time, treadmill workouts and one-on-one playtime coupled with the relaxing benefits of a post workout rub down and aromatherapy that help keep a dog not only physically fit, but mentally stimulated, socially engaged and emotionally happy.

The 20-day fit camp takes place June 19 – July 31. Before a dog can participate, pet parents must take the Healthy Pooch Self Assessment to determine what fitness routine is best for their pet. Once this is completed, pet parents can choose two fitness activities to add onto doggy daycare, which already incorporates plenty of social interaction and play time. Add-on services vary by location and may include:

  •  Treadmill Session: Supervised individual treadmill training provides muscle enhancing, toning and fitness regimen that not only improves the health and vitality of a dog, but also helps curb destructive behavioral problems.
  • Splash Time (supervised with doggy life jacket): Swimming is great for strengthening and conditioning, as well as burning excess energy for tireless dogs.
  • Rub Down: Who couldn’t use a post workout rubdown? After a long day of exercise and play time, pooches enjoy individual rub down time with bellies, backs and paws receiving extra special attention.
  • Enriching Play Time: Pooch associates are the next best thing to a personal trainer giving participants one-on-one time focused on extra exercise and mental stimulation.
  • Aromatherapy Bath: Bath time is imperative after an intense workout and this aromatherapy bath with mixtures of lavender to calm and vanilla to relax helps pups smell good and feel good. There are several choices to choose from, but it’s not aromatherapy in the traditional sense.
  • Treat Puzzle Session: Pooches need to keep their mind sharp, as well as their body. Ten minutes of thinking play can equal 45 minutes of active play for pets, so puzzle toys help keep dogs mentally stimulated.

Pooch Hotel associates will track participant activity on the Get Fit board in the hotel lobby so pet parents can stay abreast of progress. Before beginning a new workout regimen, speak with a veterinarian to determine the type and amount of activity that is appropriate.
