LIGHTNING RELEASES: Miami, FL – IT Expo (1/30/2014) – InPhonex serves communications service providers, businesses of all sizes through its RingByName flagship product, value-added resellers (VARs) and consumers, under its own and other brands. Offerings include multiple applications, services and utilities, such as VolP, hosted PBX, SIP trunking, product creation and provisioning.
To accompany its growth InPhonex had a strong need to improve the reliability and scalability of the overall architecture and migrate their existing core routing application from an aging SIP Application Server that handled outbound SIP Traffic to more than 150 countries with peak capacity of 10,000 concurrent calls. As InPhonex handles a number of SIP trunks and carrier partners, the interoperability at the SIP protocol level of the new SIP Application Server was one of the critical requirements. The core routing system had to be able to inter-operate with a variety of existing telecommunications vendors and SIP/IMS networks.
The security, fraud and privacy concerns that an Internet telephony service provider (ITSP) has to address are critical. As such, InPhonex was particularly concerned with protecting its service infrastructure against Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, which are potentially catastrophic to revenue-producing VoIP services.. Inphonex had experience with deploying ACME Packet Session Border Controller and utilizing it for SIP network protection. As part of the core SIP routing system migration, InPhonex wanted to have similar security, congestion control, traffic throttling and monitoring capabilities available from the SIP Application Server. All these challenges had to be addressed with a high quality architecture that could rapidly scale to a growing customer base without the excessive costs associated with traditional telecommunications architectures and vendors.
InPhonex selected TeleStax SIP Servlets as the Solution for the Core SIP Traffic Routing and has been able to achieve the required migration while tackling the challenges imposed by InPhonex’s lines of business. By clearly demonstrating that an affordable and scalable, high-throughput, mission-critical fault tolerant system, can be built with the right use of open source technology, InPhonex has the piece of mind to handle future growth of its business. InPhonex has also contributed financially and with know-how to the Mobicents community – a strong testament to its support for Professional Open Source.
